UAE VAT & Corporate Tax Questions, Answered
VAT registration is mandatory in the UAE once a business's taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 over the previous 12 months, or are expected to exceed that in the next 30 days. Voluntary registration is available from AED 187,500.
The UAE standard Corporate Tax rate is 0% on taxable income up to AED 375,000 and 9% on taxable income above that threshold, under Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022. Free zone Qualifying Free Zone Persons may pay 0% on Qualifying Income instead.
Businesses with revenue of AED 3 million or less in the current and all previous applicable tax periods since 1 June 2023 may elect Small Business Relief, unless they are a Qualifying Free Zone Person or part of a Multinational Enterprise Group. The relief was extended to cover tax periods ending on or before 31 December 2029 under Ministerial Decision No. 131 of 2026.
Most UAE free zones, including DMCC, JAFZA, SAIF Zone and RAKEZ, require audited financial statements every year for trade licence renewal, regardless of revenue. Mainland companies are generally not required to audit at lower revenue levels, though banks, tenders and some Corporate Tax positions may still call for audited accounts.
